About Gualala WAH - LA - LA or GWA - LA - LA

"Where The Water Meets The Sea" Gualala was the name the original Pomo Indians gave to the place 'where the water meets the sea' or 'where the water comes down' At one time the town was spelled 'Wallala' instead of 'Gualala'. But in an earlier time when the Postmaster was reorganizing the districts he decided the town needed to be spelled with a 'G' instead of a 'W' following rules for the Spanish language. The name of the town is always mispronounced even by some of the locals that live here, so don't be afraid if you say it incorrectly the first time.

Gualala is the the commercial center for towns from Annapolis to Elk. It is a coastal community of exquisite beauty located in Mendocino County.

The area has mild climate year-round. Gualala is nestled in the 'Banana Belt' which is warmer and relatively fog-free area along the Redwood Coast. This makes Gualala an ideal coastal destination. The north coast is famous for its dramatic natural beauty.
